Strategic Action Plan

Message from the President

"Together, you and I determine what this university is and will become. Every day we can make it a little stronger, a little better, a little more humane, a little more effective. Many, many people are depending on us, and we dare not give them less than our most supreme efforts."

President Irvin D. Reid
State of the University Address
September 2006

I am pleased to present Wayne State University’s 2006-2011 Strategic Plan. The Plan’s elements and principles are the result of many months of study and discussion among faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university. They build on our past, celebrating the university’s traditions of excellence, just as they look with assurance into the future, transforming our capacity for extraordinary service to students and society.

We all can take pride in the cooperation and sense of common purpose that brought about our Strategic Plan. Now we must work together even harder to bring its many and diverse elements to fruition. The Plan points the way to the next era in Wayne State University’s distinguished history, as we continue to refine the quality of our scholarship, teaching, scientific inquiry and community enrichment.

I am confident that this Strategic Plan will enable Wayne State University to develop and nurture the human and intellectual capital to secure our place among this nation’s finest urban, public universities.

Irvin D. Reid
